
Women and Political Power

Women have tried to gain political power in mnay ways from speeches. They've have tried to work for justice in many ways in the American political power. In the 1770 woman found many great ways to contribute to the protest against British. they boycotted tea and British made clothing. Mury Goddard issued the first printed copy of the Declaration of The Independence to incluude the signers names which was a more active role than just a boycott. In 1848 Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott launched the first woman suffrage movement in the United States at the Senecu Falls New York which they presented her Declaration of Sentiments demanding rights for woman and for them to vote. In 1920 the United States finally adopted the ninetenth amendment which granted woman the right to vote. The equal right ammendment movement took place in 1972-1982 due to woman obtained the same social and economic rights as men. ERA failed to be rafied for the constitution but women proceeded forward. In 2001 our 107th congress had 60 women serve in the white house and 13 serve in the senate. Patty Murray and Maria Lantared in 2000. Women are part of our one concludes our nation.

At the first continental congress met colonists in Eastern New England towns steeped up military preparation. Spring 1775 General Thomas Gage ordered troops to March from Boston to Concord Massuchusetts and to seize illegal weapons. It went from church bells to gun shots. April 19 there stood 70 minutemen drawn up in lines. They were ordered to lay down their arms and leave but someone shot a bullet. Then the British replied with many shots. That was known as The Battle Of Lexington. The first battle of revolutionary war lasted 15 minutes. Boston soon came to their end. the colonists were also enemies of them. they were under siege. In May 1775 Second Continental Congress colonial leaders called for a debate of their next move. Some just wanted independence, while others wanted reconcilition with Great Britain. The final decision was by Congress was to recognize the colonial militia as the Continental Army. George Washington was appointed commander. The battle of bunker hill took place on June 17, 1775 and was lead by Thomas Gage. He decided to strike as militiamen on Breeds Hill. I was known to be one of the deadliest battle of the war. In July the Second Continental Congress was looking at the warand hoping for peace.
